College again today. Another charcoal drawing - this time framing the 'best' part of a composition, and adding light-, mid- and dark tones, also texture. I'm proud to say this ended up on display in the corridor!
My inspiration is heritage craft: I manipulate materials by scraping, scrubbing, twisting, weaving, beating, stitching, chipping, tearing and melting.
I use an archaeological approach to investigate the layers of history: First I excavate and deconstruct traditional craft materials, then recombine them in unexpected ways to symbolise and emphasise their significance. In the process, I'm reconstructing and redefining myself.
