I think I'm getting there now. I wanted to show the lightness and transparency of the bird, so painted the sky colour all over first, then lifted out the flight feathers. After I'd painted in the body colour, I used the same sky colour for shading.

- My inspiration is heritage craft: I manipulate materials by scraping, scrubbing, twisting, weaving, beating, stitching, chipping, tearing and melting. I use an archaeological approach to investigate the layers of history: First I excavate and deconstruct traditional craft materials, then recombine them in unexpected ways to symbolise and emphasise their significance. In the process, I'm reconstructing and redefining myself.
