I really think I can make something of this. (It's a 3D sketchbook, in case you hadn't noticed!)

Here's another page from the sketchbook. Can you spot Sawyer, lost in time, on the island?! I've got another One-to-One tutoring contract for after Christmas to keep me busy.

Here's a page from the sketchbook, which I think would be the basis for a good painting. I've been tutoring adults on Fridays for the past month. My last session of this course today. My observation last week went well, and the feedback from the students was very positive - so it looks like I've got a new job.

My first abstract oil painting! First the half finished version, then (inverted!) the finished piece. We've started compiling a sketchbook now, which I'm really enjoying. Very cathartic. I began with a Lost theme, using my sketch of Sawyer. Rob worried me by going to a Marilyn Manson concert in Brixton - but came home safely at 1.30am having thoroughly enjoyed himself. So I suppose we'll have to go through it all on a regular basis now.

Our first (oil) painting session at college. We were just doing colour mixing exercises, so nothing worth photographing for the blog. We learned lots of useful things though, including that colour theory is an artificial construct, and that colours are symbolic and cultural, so this influences how we perceive them. So cool! So we don't have to worry about colour theory, just paint what we see, or want to paint. Huzzah! Really pleased with this Nigella, by the way - so different from oils.

I have found yet another use for John's squashes! That brings the total to 5. Helped with the have-a-go archery at the Samhain festival. A good atmosphere, and I enjoyed listening to Molly's storytelling in the chieftain's roundhouse - a Viking story about giant quern stones, and a new version of Rumplestiltskin. Great.

Dropped some paintings off for the exhibition in Hertford. I take this in my stride now, which makes me realise how far I've come in the last couple of years. I feel I'm holding my own at college too - and looking foward to illustrating Lesley's book. It's taken so long to find some confidence, but I've think I'm getting there. Back on flowers for a while...

Then we had to add an object from home. Spot the mobile phone space ships! Now we have a space port - and some insight into how my mind works! Loved it.

We had to look at what the drawing suggested to us, forgetting about existential representation (I think!). I turned the paper anticlockwise. To finish next week...
Just to recap - this was an exercise in static and dynamic mark making using wet texture (ink) and dry texture (pastel, charcoal and a rubber). Finished this too.18 October 2009

My quiver. Rosie has a dreadful cold (windswept battlefields?) and can't go to school. Missed her flute lesson too.
